Maya Angelou

You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody ~ Maya Angelou

This phrase is something that I have to remember from time to time. I have spent far too much of my life, both in childhood and adulthood, trying to please everyone in my life. I have been brokenhearted by the fact that no matter how hard you try, you just cannot please everyone. So, I have to reassure myself that it is okay if people aren’t happy with everything I do or say. Many people cannot be pleased no matter how hard you try and when you continue to try over and over again, all you do is beat your head against a brick wall. I don’t know about you, but that kind of masochistic behavior is not what I am into. So don’t beat yourself up if you can’t make people happy. It’s not your job to make them happy. It is their job to make THEMSELVES happy! Just keep doing what you are supposed to and everyone else can go hang. Make yourself happy!

Summer is officially here

Saturday, June 1st, 2013

With the passing of Memorial Day, we can safely say that summer is officially here and celebrations are in the air. It is time for boating and camping trips, family and fun. The winter blues are gone and summer excitement has taken over. We are making our plans for a boating trip next weekend and hope to be on the river, with tents and gear loaded and stored for an entire weekend of fun. At least four other families are planning on joining us, so it should be an amazing time. Here is a picture of the river.

Memorial Day

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

I just wanted to say to all of our veterans out there THANK YOU. To those who are still here and to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. You are appreciated. Your hard work and never ending drive are not forgotten. From my children and myself, we honor you and yours. Let’s not forget the families that have been left behind either, as they sacrificed as well, losing fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and sons and daughters. You have our deepest love.

Thank you

Oh so sweet

I have seen a lot of girls lately receiving  promise rings from their boyfriends. Fortunately my daughter is not old enough for that really and has only a mild interest in boys so far. She is more concerned with her grades and extracurricular activities through school, that she really doesn’t have time for dating yet. I am sure that she will make time for it in a couple of years, but for now she is content.

OH the beauty of Spring

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Spring is my favorite time of the year. Everything is fresh and new and so unbelievably GREEN! After the winter blues and the constant browns of the dead trees and grass, the lovely colors of spring are refreshing. The flowers are blooming and we can take lovely walks along the nature trails. The kids are so happy to be able to go outside and play without heavy coats and boots on.

We are currently planning our Memorial weekend camping trip to the Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky. We are meeting up with family and friends for an amazing weekend of boating, four wheeling and BarBQing. We are so excited about the trip that the next few weeks are going to be hard to deal with. Between the preparations and the kids wanting to know how much longer till we can go, I am going to be hard pressed to deal with it all calmly.
